You'll be flattened numerous times whilst you try to figure out how to deal with each new enemy along the way, and sometimes it can be frustrating as the aging/death mechanic frequently triggers to the point where your character morphs into pensioner in a blink of an eye.īeing honest, SIFU isn't for beginners. Taking down certain enemies requires studying their fighting patterns, knowing when to parry or to dodge and taking advantage of openings to counter.
Now, this is where SIFU becomes like Marmite - either you fall in love with the combat style or you find it challenging and rather unforgiving. You dish out more damage as you spout the grey hairs but your health limit decreases as your character starts to resemble your grandparents. Don't worry if you get downed though, SIFU has a rather clever mechanic where every time you are defeated, you are revived but with the catch that your character ages. You kick, punch, block, dodge and occasionally smash objects over mobs of enemies who lead to each "boss". Kickstarting the game, where it starts to go downhill - clichéd revenge story, no major spoilers since the game opens with it, you pick a male or female character on a path to avenge your master by taking down those who were involved with his death.
